Menorrhagia is defined as excessive menstrual bleeding lasting more than 7 days or heavy flow requiring changing pads/tampons frequently (more than 5 times a day).
Causes
- Hormonal changes.
- Use of IUDs.
- Presence of Fibroids/Polyps.
- Use of some medications such as emergency pills.
- Uterine Infections.
- Coagulation disorders.
- Trauma.
Treatment Options
Treatment depends on the underlying cause. The options include the following:
- Hormonal medication.
- NSAIDS.
- Tranexamic acid.
- IUD hormonal.
- Surgery.
